About 10:10 Wellness

The Company

In the fall of 1999, Chris Hughes (company founder)  responded to a direct mail piece from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America.  Their Team in Training program offered to help prepare him and a team of other athletes for a triathlon if they would raise some money.  While training, they consumed large quantities of Cytomax, PowerBars, and PowerGels.  He contacted CytoSport about buying and selling their products as a fundraiser, and to his surprise, they said yes!  Eventually, the name Homemade Fitness was coined as Chris sought to lead others into a do-it-yourself approach to fitness.

Next to his passion for fitness was his passion to bring others along with him as he trained.  In his garage he lifted weights, often with a neighborhood friends, and at the Flatwoods park in Tampa, he would run and cycle usually accompanied by some of his training buddies.  All the while, he’d share some of his training experience and advice with others about what helped him to stay fit.  At the same time he’d suggest various supplements, clothing, and training equipment to his friends who would buy from his “company”.  The number of lines he sold and the number of people with whom he trained grew to the point where one of his longtime friends suggested he incorporate this business.  In May of 2002 Homemade Fitness became a Florida corporation while essentially still just a hobby business for its founder.

The company grew very little as Chris’ commitments to family, church, and work left very little time to devote to his hobby business.  However, God was working on his heart, constantly drawing him to this venture.  Chris will admit that several times he wanted to kill the business and just train with his “buds”.  He continued to sell his lines, which were now mostly geared to a running and triathlon crowd, to a small but devoted audience.  Reflecting on how he was made and what he was drawn to, he felt his purpose was somehow linked to this business.

In June of 2005 on the way back from a Young Life summer trip with a bunch of high school boys, Chris had a revelation.  He had always said that he wanted his business to glorify God.  Why not give God the credit and incorporate Him into the name?  Chris’ favorite bible verse, John 10:10, was a perfect description of what he wanted to pursue, so he changed the name of the brand to 10:10 Wellness.  At the same time, he shifted to a network marketing strategy (do you know where that concept came from?) so others could be brought to a more abundant life.

Mission

The mission of 10:10 Wellness is to lead people into healthy lifestyles and activities they can get excited about. This mission is supported by our four core values:  encouragement, participation, fun, and study.

We achieve the mission when we help others (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.) commit to an ongoing wellness program.  We define wellness as the proactive pursuit of products, services, and activities that make you feel healthier and look better, that slow the effects of aging, and that prevent diseases from developing.
